I'm a researcher at Electronic Arts in the UK. When EA game developers create a game it's up to me and my colleagues to playtest the game and ensure there are no blockers to players having fun.
I have a degree in Psychology and also a PhD in player behaviour in World of Warcraft. I use a lot of statistics, and project management skills. Also creativity, communication and written skills are good to have.
I enjoy playing video games too, reading, and going to art exhibitions.
