What is the balance between theoretical coursework and practical, skills-based training for taking the major of criminal justice?

I learn so much faster by doing everything hands on. I am looking for a program where I can actually use tools, not study them.

What specific specializations are offered for going into the major Criminal Justice (Forensic science, homeland security, law enforcement, forensics, juvenile justice, crime scene investigation, etc.)?

I took criminal justice as a class this sophomore year of high school and it was very interesting. I want to continue my adventure in criminal justice as a career in the future.
