Richard’s Answer

It will broaden your outlook and give you a chance to see other cultures.

However, it doesn't necessarily improve your education except in certain specific circumstances. For example, if you will need proficiency in a foreign language, study abroad is a great option

I agree with Jillian - studying abroad ( I studied in London ) was one of the most rewarding and enriching experiences during my four years in college. You will likely build some of the deepest friendships during this time, because you are all together in such a new and exciting place, and you will get the opportunity to see places that you might never visit otherwise! And it is possible to find certain cities that are in fact lower-cost (London is probably not one of them, I learned the hard way - but it was still a great experience!) so you can do the research to figure out the average cost of food and other day-to-day expenses and identify cities that might be of interest to you!

Kelsey recommends the following next steps:

Research cities that your school offers study-abroad programs at and identify cities that you would be interested in.
Find people at school, and in your major, who have studied abroad - talk to them to learn about their experiences!

Jillian’s Answer

Studying abroad was one of the things I was most looking forward to do in college. It gives you the opportunity to live in a foreign country without the long term commitment. For me, studying abroad was more than just education. Yes, you will be taking classes and be working towards your educational requirements, but you'll gain so much more in life experiences, cultural knowledge, and personal growth.

My school had a pretty good study abroad program built into the curriculum. In fact, it cost less for me to study abroad (tuition/housing/materials) than it did for me to attend my college. This was because the standard of living and the tuition costs in the country I studied abroad in was lower.

If studying abroad is something you are interested in, I would encourage you to do more research about it. In the end, the experience will be worth if you make it worth it!
