Does research fulfill the need for creativity?

I'm really deep into art as a hobby, but lately, I've been thinking about it more seriously the more people compliment me.
I'm not sure I want to get rid of my plan to go into Biomed or pharmaceutical research, so I thought to ask about how they would really differ in terms of creative engagement. Like, does it get creative or exciting? This is literally my lifetime dilemma and I'm gonna die.

Sofia,

What's the dilemma? Do them both!

I do some legal research, not scientific. I don't find it creative at all. From what I recall about science, we had to follow the "scientific method." Everything was precise. Very structured. So, why not do science as your "real job," and have a side business? Lots of people do it.

Create/sell crafts on weekends. It doesn't usually cost much to get a table at a flea market or church sale or someplace like that. Moving up, you can lease a small booth in a shop that will sell your products for you on consignment (they take a percentage as commission). Or, you could sell on-line. To me, creativity is about following an inner-voice, a voice that is begging to be heard. Please don't stifle it!

Forough’s Answer

It depends on your research type, your supervisor, etc. Some supervisors respect your ideas and allow you to look at your research questions from different views and test your methods. I think writing a research plan really needs creativity. If you are a creative person, you can use that when proposing a research question and possible methods and solutions. Finding an alternative simpler solution to an already solved problem also requires creativity.
