Hey Gavin, it's great to see you thinking about your future so early! Finding a career path you truly enjoy is a bit like putting together a mixtape—you try different tracks until you discover the ones that really hit home.

Start with Self-discovery!
Begin by reflecting on what lights you up. What subjects or hobbies do you naturally gravitate toward? What types of activities make you lose track of time? Jot down your strengths, what you enjoy, and even note any challenges you’ve faced—this self-awareness is your compass.
As you explore, consider career assessments (think Myers-Briggs, Strong Interest Inventory, or Holland Codes) to match your interests with potential fields. Volunteer, join clubs, or even try out internships or job shadowing if you can. These experiences are like sample tracks—they help you figure out what you might want on your long-play career album.

Remember to maks the most of educational opportunities (even if they don’t directly align with your ultimate major) can be really helpful. sometimes the foundation you build—through general education courses or diverse experiences—can be invaluable later on. Even if you’re not 100% sure about your future major, gathering a broad range of skills now will open doors down the road.

I also want to echo the supportive sentiment that’s been shared around here. Remember when someone chimed in with a quick “Of course, Gavin!”—it’s a small reminder that you’re not alone in this journey. Your school counselors, teachers, and family can offer insight and guidance as you explore your options.🤗

If you’re still feeling a bit lost, consider scheduling a session with your guidance counselor or taking a detailed career assessment. These tools can help narrow down your interests and point you toward paths you might not have considered yet. And if you ever need more information or a deeper dive into any specific career options, just let me know—I’m here to help you navigate every twist and turn of this exciting journey.

Good luck, and all the best Gavin!

Hello Gavin,

It's fantastic that you're thinking about you're future so early! Finding a career path that you will enjoy and feel fulfilled in is all about exploring your interests, strengths, and values. Spend some time thinking about what you enjoy and you're good at. What subjects or activities do you enjoy the most at school? What are your hobbies and interests outside of school? What skills or talents do you have that you feel confident about? What kind of work environment do you prefer (collaborative, independent, fast-paced, etc)?

You can learn about various career paths by looking up different professions and reading about what they entail. Websites like the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook handbook helps provide detailed information regarding different job fields. You can also try reaching out to people who work in fields that you might be interested in. Ask them about their experiences, what they like about their job, and any challenges that they face regarding their position.

There are also many free career assessment tools available online that can help match your interests and strengths with potential career paths. Some of the well-known ones are the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Strong Interest Inventory, and Holland Code (RIASEC). Alongside this, participating in clubs, sports, or volunteer work can also help you discover new interests and develop valuable skills that you could give a try. It's okay if your interests change over time. There are many people who have switched career multiple times in their lives, so what's important is that you pursue something that feels meaningful and fulfilling to you.

Stay curious and keep exploring new subjects and activities. The more you learn, the better you'll understand what excites and motivates you. Don't hesitate to talk to your school counselor, teachers, or family members about your career aspirations. They can help provide you support, resources, and additional advice to help you make informed decisions. Finding a career is a process, and it's great that you're starting early on. Take your time, explore different options, and trust that you'll find one that suits you.

I hope this helps you out a bit more, and I wish you the best in all your future endeavors!

Best Regards,
Emily Garcia

To find a career that brings you fulfillment, start by identifying your passions, strengths, and weaknesses, and listen closely to your heart. Reflect on what excites you, what you're good at, and where you struggle—this self-awareness will help you narrow down potential paths. Once you have a clearer understanding of yourself, you can explore different career options by researching fields, taking career assessments, and talking to professionals.

Get involved in volunteering, internships, or shadowing can offer valuable insights into what specific jobs are like. Participating in career fairs, workshops, or networking events will also help you connect with professionals and learn more about different industries.

Set short-term goals, such as taking personality tests or enrolling in online courses, to further guide your exploration. Stay open to change as you discover more about yourself and what excites you. Find mentors who can offer advice, and work on developing key soft skills like communication and problem-solving.

While it's important to follow your passions, also consider practical factors like job stability and growth opportunities. Stay informed about emerging fields, like technology and sustainability, that might offer exciting new career options. Most importantly, take your time—exploring, reflecting, and listening to your heart will guide you in making a decision that aligns with your true self.
Good luck!
