Hey Atlehgang,

🤗Alrightie, so, Michelle made some solid points! When looking into product testing, always check if the company is legit—no fees, clear guidelines, and a solid track record. If they’re sketchy about pay or ask for personal info upfront, that’s a red flag.

Adding to Michelle’s advice, you might also want to check reviews from other testers on platforms like Reddit or Trustpilot. Some companies only offer free products as compensation, while others pay cash. If you're looking for income, focus on ones that pay per test, like Pinecone Research or UserTesting (which is more about website/app feedback but still a good gig).

Also, if you're under 18, many of these sites might require parental consent, so double-check their age policies before signing up. Hope that helps—good luck!

Michelle’s Answer

Hello. Atlegang !

Whatever company you are referring to should either have a website with complete information and an e-mail address so that you can ask your questions of them directly. Being a product tester for a legitimate company can be fun if it is one that is on the level and does not require a fee from their applicants. Many of these companies do have a lengthy guideline and responsibilities spelled out for the applicant before they apply. It will be worthwhile to read whatever guidelines they provide before applying. You should not be left with any questions before applying and I am assuming that this is an online work from home job that you are asking about. It used to be all done in person on site.

I loved being a product tester back in the '90's when I lived in New York City. I tested mostly makeup, hair dye and lotions. It was all done in person though and was cut and dry, no mysteries. It is a great side-gig if you fit a wide demographic and do not have to spend your own money. I have no idea if this would be an option, but try to find some product testing companies that have an office that you can visit to apply. You didn't mention your town or city. I know I was paid well to test for the way the economy was in the early 1990's, but I have no idea what they're paying now. They really should provide you with a pay range for what the pay is for certain products. You should find out what type of products you'd be testing BEFORE you apply and only the company could inform you of that.

I would advise staying away from food products, candy or soft drinks. They are usually new products and you just never know. I am venturing to say that the pay may be disappointing, but you can apply to other companies in addition to possibly make more money. Some other places that have websites for this type of work are
Home Tester Club, Swagbucks, Jump Task, Mike Vestil, and others. You can do a search online for more. The tip is: read all of the information - it will spell out all the information you'll need to know in order to make a decision to apply. I left a link below for you to read how to become a consumer product tester and there are some tips there. Try to find out if you have to be 18 or older to do this.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !
