What are some ways to achieve good mental health as a journalist?
I am a second year journalism major at American River College. I write for the school newspaper and a part of a local freelance group. I plan on transferring to Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN.

It's important to establish boundaries to prevent yourself from becoming overworked. Be cautious about taking on more responsibilities than you can handle. Often, management is unaware that they are overburdening employees, which can lead to burnout and a desire to leave the profession. Consider seeking therapy to help cope with the stress that work can bring. If your insurance doesn’t cover therapy or if it’s too expensive, reach out to a trusted friend for support.

Know your own limits. Or work to get to know them.
Chances are, you are already in a constant loop of deadlines on deadlines between your classwork, newspaper work and the freelancing group.
You may love it and thrive under pressure, or you may need to adjust your schedule (and commitments) to work with your personal needs and overall happiness. Again, you may love the layered deadlines and like working under pressure (I did), but just be aware and check yourself.
There are almost always ways to dial things back and still get the experiences you want.
