Are Ultrasound Techs in need of hiring in the United States?

I've never really heard of people working for ultrasounds, but I would see them at the doctor's office when I would go get an ultrasound.

Hi Holly, sonographers/ultrasound technologists are very much so in need in the US! There is a high demand for all modalities. I myself am a RVT; a registered vascular technologist. We evaluate arteries and veins throughout the body-including the brain! We also assist through certain procedures, such as vein ablation surgeries. There are also cardiac sonographers-the heart-and general sonographers, who do OBGYN exams as well as organ exams (liver, spleen, etc). While we vascular techs also evaluate organs, we do so on a vascular level (the arteries and veins). Pay is very good, and your career can take you even outside of the hospital/clinic into a more educational or consultant role. Currently I am a clinical/procedural specialist for a medical device. It is a very niche career being a sonographer-and very rewarding! There are mostly associate degrees in sonography, but also Rush University in Chicago (where I went) offers a BS in Vascular Ultrasound. It is a very exciting career!
