Why do many companies prefer students straight out of college now with no experience over career-experienced individuals ?

I live in the south and it seems like more often, industry-related jobs are wanting to hire non-experienced individuals over those with plenty of experience in their technical area of profession. I’m curious why there seems to be a shift to this over applicants with years of industrial experience in their fields.

Newly graduated technicians are highly adaptable to an employer's expectations and protocols. Plus, they are available at a more budget-friendly wage.

That is a new phenomenon, because experience has always been preferred. UNLESS the skill set that are needed are only being found in new graduates. If the job market is desperate for workers I see that this makes sense, but this is a curious question if they are selecting new grads over experienced workers. It could be a compensation related issue.
Thank you comment icon Yes, I find it odd, but have seen it first hand in seasoned tradesmen being overlooked in favor of inexperienced college graduates who can be groomed to do the job from day one as expected. I’m thinking it has something to do with not wanting employees set in their ways and also like you said, maybe pay expectation. Charles
Thank you comment icon Depends on how seasoned. Age discrimination can happen, and to avoid any legal ramifications, it goes unsaid as to why a person of a certain age isnt hired. Sad, but true. TRAVIS UPCHURCH
