What is some advice music majors would provide?
As a high school sophomore, I am working on a career project and have decided to become a band teacher. What advice would teachers who have had their job for a while give to someone just starting with their career? What advice would music students/teachers give to younger people who want to start in this area?

Hi! Many music education degrees are for K-12, in my experience with an instrumental or voice focus and general music. Know that if you want to be a band teacher the instrumental track will have you learning how to play all the band and orchestra instruments. You'll also likely be responsible for some kind of general music component. Start with your current band teacher and asking if you can do a shadowing with them. If possible, see if this may be an option at other neighboring school districts or at other schools in your district.
