What are the perks and the most common problems of internship?

College education is enriching but it lacks some concrete aspects of how a certain #job actually takes places on a daily basis. Usually, nowadays, when applying from a job, it is better considered if you have already had an #experience in the field. #Internship, therefore, cannot be overlooked. It gives you insights about a particular job that no college education can ever give you. However, it can turn out quite problematic on certain aspects. I would like to know more about your experiences with internship and what are your opinion towards them?

Deb’s Answer

When I did my intern, I was able to receive on the job experience as well as work with employees who have been doing it for years. It sometimes turns into a permanent job and you can meet others in your field which may help you receive another job by their references and names.

Hi Damien! As you said, internships are a great way to get real life experience for a job. It is also something that can look good to employers when applying for similar positions. I have done one internship and one graduate assistantship but unfortunately neither apply to my career. However, you can use any experience and learn from it.

For things such as internships you should try and find one that is relevant to what you want to go into. Sometimes internships will expose you to a job you think you want to do, but this experience makes you realize you don't. If this is the case, you can still make the most out of the opportunity. Continue to apply yourself and strengthen your skills and relationships within the position. These skills can be applied to what you do in the future and you may build relationships with people that can help you with a job opportunity.

Some companies do not consider internships as work experience but they can still show specific experience and skills that you have. If you are looking to grow within a company, internships could also lead to full-time positions. Internships may not always apply to what you want to do or may not be paid but I believe you can always use them to your advantage in the future.
