What is the best way to absorb information as a student who forgets important things quickly?

Ever since I was younger, I have had a difficult time remembering important information. It hasn't affected me throughout high school greatly, but I am worried for how it might affect me in College.

Leo’s Answer

Hi Cristina,
I hope that you're having an awesome day! I'll give you the best advice in a couple of sentences and it's from the heart and how I have learned throughout my life.

"Learn the mechanisms" - Leo McKenzie
That means lean how it works, how it ticks and it becomes common sense that you don't have to focus on remembering. Don't focus on learning factoids. Learn how it works and the rest is super simple.

I hope that was helpful. Keep it simple. Don't try to sound smarter or better, just focus on why something works the way it does and the rest literally will just fall into place. Have a great rest of your day and Happy Easter!

Joseph’s Answer

Break information into manageable chunks. Rather than trying read an entire chapter and memorize the all of the ideas, break that chapter into smaller topics and memorize a smaller number of ideas.

Highlight important ideas so that you can refer to them later. You can use note cards to summarize an idea for later (or a highlighter).
