What are some ways to prepare for Job-search and interviewing?
Are there any tips and tricks to stand out with a potential employer? What are some things I can expect when i'm brought in for an interview? How to prepare for job-search while I am still pursuing a degree? #spring25

Hi Kiana,
That's a great question! I agree with the advice to do your homework first. Here are some tips to help you out:
1. Learn about the company and the department you're interviewing with. Try to understand what challenges they face and what problems they're trying to solve.
2. Get ready for the interview by knowing your strengths and what you can offer. Think about how you can help improve the organization.
3. Have some examples ready. Think about past experiences that show how you can benefit the organization and be ready to talk about them.
4. Practice a lot. Go over common interview questions you can find online. Try answering them in front of a mirror to get more comfortable.
These steps should help you get started. Good luck!

Hi Kiana!
Your school probably has a career fair, which is a great place to start learning about different careers and finding an internship or co-op. At the fair, be confident and friendly. Your resume should make you stand out, so show your skills and your interest in the role or company. Include projects you've done or classes with clear results to highlight your abilities. Also, practice for interviews! Technical interviews might use the STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, and Result). The more you know about these, the better you'll perform in an interview.

Set up alerts for organisations/roles that you are interested in.
Research companies that you would initially consider and then look at their competitors/similar organisations to broaden the companies that you research.
If you get to an interview, prepare for questions such as 'Why are you interested in this role/company'? Employers want to see that you are invested in the opportunity you have applied to/interviewing for. The expectation is not that you will be an expert in the company, but you will need to demonstrate why you have applied/what interests you about the organisation.
Look at recent company updates on social media that interest you. Review the company on platforms where employees share their insight - you can reference what you have discovered in an interview.

Hi Kiana! 100% agree with what Kristine has shared here as well. I would also highly encourage you to do your research. Before you ever interview with an organization - understand what they do, why you want to work for them, and what questions you want answered! As much preparation as you can beforehand, the better!
