How did you decide what career to choose after graduating with your degree?

I'm currently a senior in high school looking to major in psychology, but I'm having difficulty deciding what career to choose after graduating from college. Is there any specific opportunity you had in college, such as an internship, that helped you pick your career and/or find a job in it after graduating?

I started college as a psychology major, but after a year, I realized it wasn't the right fit for me. I love psychology, but none of the career paths felt exciting. It's important to explore and research different options to find what truly suits you. I've always liked math and statistics, and working as a math tutor at my university showed me that I enjoy both math and teaching. This led me to complete a degree in math education. Even after that, I've made adjustments as I moved into a business analytics role and now into finance. Remember, you don't have to stick with one thing forever. Keep exploring and growing!

Start by asking yourself what you're working for and what matters most to you. If your goal is to help people, you have many options. If you want to earn a good income, consider how much schooling you're willing to pursue. Earning a high salary often requires more education beyond a four-year degree in the field of psychology.

Don't rush into choosing a career in your first year. You don't need to decide on a major right away. Use your first year to take general classes that everyone needs to graduate. Try something fun or join a club to explore your interests. You might discover something you enjoy that you hadn't considered before. This is also a great time to talk to people in different fields. Look for opportunities to job shadow or do internships. Volunteer at local mental health groups and events. The more you try, the easier it will be to figure out what you enjoy and what you don't. Aim for a job that pays well and allows you to help others.

I help people every day, but I never thought I’d do it by working at a bank. You can still make a positive impact and earn a good living. Don't limit your experiences, as learning about yourself is always valuable.

The one question! Don't worry, we all have been there :)

Not sure about the opportunities in your place but during our times we just need to focus in whatever field you can produce the most from you and also have more opportunities of success.. So any career you chose then try to focus on the specific field on what's best for you and secure a job.

Or, you can always pursuit to build something new and become an entrepreneur, if you are convinced you can do it great... it's all up to you!
