How should I go about making friends?
I'm a DoDEA student, meaning I've lived overseas for a majority of my life. My friends are all going to different colleges in different states. I'm nervous to make friends and I'm not really sure how to, especially knowing how big the schools are and the amount of people there will be. My graduating class will be around 45 people so it's a really small school.

Hi! I totally understand your worries, starting college can be overwhelming, especially when you’re stepping into such a big environment. I came from a large high school myself, so while I was used to being around a lot of people, college still felt like a huge shift. I was lucky that a lot of students from my high school were going to the same college as me. Even though I wasn’t close with most of them (and still aren’t), it was comforting to see a familiar, friendly face around campus.
At first, I made one good friend and we stuck together my entire freshman year we even took classes together. But once we chose different majors, we naturally drifted apart. It wasn’t until I started joining clubs that I really began to build friendships and feel like I found a place where I belonged. Clubs introduced me to like-minded people, and that’s where I finally felt more at home. My advice is to take the pressure off trying to find “your people” right away it takes time, but the right connections will come when you explore and stay open to new experiences. You’re not alone in feeling nervous, but I promise, you’ll find your community too.
