AI can generally be viewed as tool, while CyberSecurity is a domain. AI can be used as a tool for detecting threats, malicious actions, and then creating mitigation controls using AI. However, there is growing area of research where CyberSecurity principles can be tailored to protect AI from threat actors, in that sense AI is the domain, and CyberSecurity is the tool. This is particularly an interesting area and will bode well to understand the underpinnings of both AI as well as CyberSecurity. In short, knowledge of AI is extremely important, as previously mentioned, a tool that can be used to solve problems in different domains and when combined with CyberSecurity principles gives a very unique / niche that is not generally prevalent in workforce today and therefore worth exploring as a career field.
Take Andrew Ng's courses on Coursera or other similar courses
Try to play around using opensource tools (nmap, nessus)

Choosing between a career in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cybersecurity in engineering depends on your interests and career goals. Both fields offer significant growth and demand but involve distinct skills and focus areas. AI focuses on creating intelligent systems and analyzing data, while Cybersecurity focuses on protecting systems and data from threats.
Choose AI if you are passionate about creating innovative technologies and analyzing data, and Cybersecurity if you are drawn to protecting digital assets and solving real-time problems. Both fields offer rewarding career paths, so choose the one that best aligns with your interests and goals.

Hi,
I would choose Cyber Security because many people are focusing on AI. In Cyber Security, you can still use AI methods and techniques to identify problems and find solutions.

Hi San,
No matter whether you go for Cyber Security or AI, you can always learn the other on the side. AI is becoming more important, but Cyber Security is also key as threats keep getting bigger and more complex. Think of AI as a tool and Cyber Security as a field. You might consider studying Cyber Security at university to get a solid foundation. Meanwhile, you can learn about AI tools through courses and certifications. This way, you'll have a well-rounded skill set.
Good luck!

I believe you should never stop learning after finishing your computer engineering. Choose what you love most between Cyber Security and AI. If you pick Cyber Security, start exploring AI as a side interest, or do the opposite. Many people in IT switch their focus, roles, and specializations. So, choose what you enjoy and keep exploring other areas too.

If you love using logic to tackle real-world challenges and keep things safe, cybersecurity is a booming field where you can dive right in. On the other hand, if you're excited by data, patterns, and creating smart systems, AI could be your perfect match. Try out beginner projects in both areas to find what truly excites you. Wishing you the best on your journey!
