How can I build stronger relationships with professionals already in my network #Spring25?

Hello, I'm a first-year student in college who has had the privilege to meet many great people in the past few months, nonetheless, I am curious how can I build deeper relationships with people I've met? I am happy to hear any advice from others who have been in a similar situation.

Collaborating on things is my go to! Work tasks, studies, etc. Also, bonding events/outings.

Make sure to send a follow-up thank you email or message on LinkedIn. And make sure you officially "connect" with them on LinkedIn. If you want, you can interact with their LinkedIn posts by liking or leaving comments. Then, in the future, if you ever need a referral, you can reach out again.

Hi Isaiah,

Now is a great time to think about building and keeping a strong connection with your network. Here are a few tips I've found helpful in my professional career:
1. Keep in touch with people consistently- Don’t just reach out when you need something. Check in every so often just to say hi, share an update about what you’re working on, or even congratulate them if you see they got a promotion or a new job.
2. Be Curious: Ask people about their experiences and advice, not just about getting a job. This is a great way to connect with people while also getting a better understanding of you're interested in pursuing the type of work they're doing or working at their company. It also shows that you want to learn from those in your network, not just get a job through them.
3. Offer others value- Even as a student, you can offer things like sharing interesting articles, recommending a podcast, or inviting them to an event you think they’d like. Little thoughtful gestures make a big difference. Also try and be authentic in your conversations. You don't need to be too formal, just be respectful and be yourself.
4. Always say thank you- make sure to show appreciation when someone gives you their time or advice. A quick follow up email always goes a long way.
