What are some effective ways to jumpstart your nursing career before graduation, specifically to prepare for a specialty in neonatal care #Spring25?

As a junior nursing student at a Cal State University, what are some tips for staying organized and what programs, internships, or jobs should I look into to get a head start in a neonatal specialty.

Personally, I do not feel that you will need to jumpstart your education. Your university sees your potential, which is why you were admitted to their program. Do the best that you can in nursing school and work to make connections in the hospital/community while in school. Often it is the best nursing students who stand out during their clinical rotations - this is what will get you noticed and often get you job offers near the time that you are scheduled to graduate. If you focus too much on jumpstarting your career (which is a common concern with nursing students), you will focus less on your school work (which you don't want to happen).

A great way to get familiarized with the hospital setting is to volunteer. You will find that a lot of hospitals are in need of caring, kind and supportive volunteers to help with delivering meals to family members, providing and restocking supplies around hospital units and even to participate in entertainment activities for kids.
