How to find dental internships?
I am going to be attending community college in the fall and then transferring, likely to a UC but may apply out of state as well. What is the best way I would be able to find internships this summer, or in the near future, in the dental industry without being enrolled in dental school?

Have you thought about reaching out to your local dental office or others nearby? Let them know you're interested in a career in dentistry. Ask if they could offer you a chance to shadow or observe, which would help you learn more. You might even help with some tasks like organizing or working at the front desk. You might be pleasantly surprised at how willing dental offices are to support someone eager to learn.

Dear Sofia:
I can tell you that, at least in my country, there are more job openings for Dental Assistants than for Dentists. And many of these openings don't require a degree in dentistry. However, you must learn the names of each instrument, the dental supplies, and their uses. You must be organized and leave everything clean and sterilized at the end of each day. You'll learn a lot if you work as a dental assistant, and you'll make better decisions about your academic future.
Good luck and I hope I've helped you!

Honestly, the old fashioned way is likely the best way in this scenario. Go door to door to dentist offices and ask if they are hiring or need volunteers or have internship opportunities. People will appreciate meeting you in person and the effort that you go to find a job. You may be able to leave your name and number, and they may just call you one day with an opportunity available. They may also know of other dentist offices who they can refer you to, as well. Being a dental assistant or just working the desk at a dental office will help you learn so much about the field and also make great connections at the office you work in. Never be afraid to just ask people. The worst thing they can say is no, but they won't be mad that you asked. Good luck!
