Hey Alyce,

I agree with Federica - that shouldn't hold you back.

while you are planning for your first job, have you ever considered volunteering to start getting some real world experience of what work could potentially be like?

it can help you understand the responsibilities, duties, and also you will meet other amazing humans. It also looks great on your CV for when you apply for your first job.

There are plenty of organisations and community groups always looking for volunteers - i'd suggest you can start with that as an easy step into the workforce.

From there you can ensure you tailor your resume for each job that you are going for to make it relevant for the position you are applying for.

Also - use your network to your advantage. For the people you already know - tell them you are interested in finding a job.

If you know what kind of job you would like to apply for - seek out people who are in that industry to understand how they approach their job, ask them for advice, and let them know you are interested in searching for a role.

I hope this helps

Hey Alyce! It's awesome that you're planning ahead.

Being a non-traditional student and autistic doesn't hold you back. Your unique view can be a big plus, especially in jobs that appreciate focus, creativity, or different ways of solving problems.

As you're getting started, here are a few simple steps and questions to consider:
1. What do I like? Think about what you love learning or doing, like design, tech, writing, organizing, or helping others.
2. Begin with small experiences like volunteering, school projects, or hobbies that highlight your skills and interests.
3. Check out your college’s career center—they can help with creating a resume, finding internships, and getting ready for interviews.

Don't stress about not having worked before. Everyone starts somewhere, and you're not behind—you're just laying the groundwork. With some support and the right chances, you can find a path that works for you!
