For EMT school, contact your local fire department and EMS service. Some put on EMT courses for free, especially when they need volunteers or are in smaller (less desirable) areas. For paramedic school this is a bit different. Make sure you're already a good EMT and have enough experience for your service to gain confidence in you. If you're with a fire department, they will often pay you to attend paramedic school given that you continue with the department afterwards. A few of the major ambulance services will also pay a percentage of your paramedic training if you sign a contract to work for them for a certain number of years. I personally would be skeptical about this- make sure you weigh the cost of the paramedic program against your pay, and make sure the company is one that is not known to exploit their employees (respect for employees, working hours, flexibility, a good team environment, a commutable location). There are also opportunities in regular non-trade colleges. Most community colleges offer an EMT program at an affordable price, and some offer paramedic programs. If you qualify for Pell grants, you can probably get one to cover these. There are also a few universities that offer bachelors degrees in EMS or Emergency Management where you get your paramedic license during your degree. Each school offers different scholarships and grants for different fields, so once you find a program get in contact with an advisor there. NAEMT also offers scholarships for each level of EMS.

Hi Jade,
If you're pursuing a career in EMS or paramedicine, there are several scholarship opportunities available to help cover your training and education costs. A great place to start is by checking organizations like the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), Bound Tree Medical, and the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, all of which offer scholarships specifically for aspiring EMTs and paramedics. Many state EMS associations and local fire or ambulance departments also provide financial support, especially if you're willing to work for them after certification. When applying, you'll usually need to submit a brief essay about your interest in EMS, along with transcripts, recommendation letters, and proof of program enrollment. It’s also smart to apply for general healthcare scholarships, as many of them are open to EMS students. Start your search early, apply widely, and don’t hesitate to ask your program or college if they know of local or regional opportunities.
