Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Amorey !

I am happy that you've come here to ask about the career of Modeling. I can give you some information to start your exploring of this career if that is a career interest of yours. It is very important to be well informed about Modeling as it is a complex yet doable career and may be unfamiliar to a lot of people.

Becoming a model has nothing to do with someone being involved in sports or knowing how to dance. Those are two skills that will boost your prospects for work, however and make a person versatile enough that they can get work as a dancer when they're not modeling. What people know how to do is not foundational in becoming a Model. It does take a lot of training and experience to be ready to obtain an agent and work. It's based on how you look. Getting an agent means that you submit your portfolio to various modeling agencies and wait to hear back from an agent who says they'll sign you on for representation. That being said, models come in all sizes and it's based on the exact look the company hiring wants.

It's not the easiest career to go through the process for, but if a person takes the right steps and is patient, anything is possible. The first step is to enroll in a Modeling School where the person will get a full training on all aspects of modeling. This is one of those careers that if you're not trained professionally, it will seem confusing and not prepare you for the professional world. So, if you are interested in this career, start looking for Modeling Schools. If you are under 18, your parent will have to manage every step of the process. Once you turn 18, however, you can navigate the process and career on your own.

Modeling is also not easy in the respect of the actual work. You'll never know what the project entails until you're chosen for one. A high tolerance for extreme weather, uncomfortable positions, traveling, and other things that people don't see before the finished product. If you are chosen for a project you'll have to show up whether you feel good not. The more social and life experience a person has will help greatly in this career. Models are expected to work on screen, stage, runway, commercials, and on site venues. There's a lot to learn and that is why Modeling School is the first step in the journey.

This career cannot be learned remotely because it greatly relies on knowing how to and being able to interact with many other people and getting feedback from instructors in real time.

The things to avoid are notices that claim they hire models with no experience. Never put your identity or modeling photos on social media, it's not done that way. Your modeling instructor at Modeling School will guide you on how to obtain work. Avoid anyone in a public place that approaches you saying that they are a photographer or an agent - just say no thank you and walk away.

So yes, models have all sorts of talents, dancing, singing, acting, they play sports and do many other things. If you want more information about this career, definitely return here and I'd be happy to discuss the career further and answer any other questions you may have. Best wishes in all you do !

Also, if you already know anyone in modeling, you can find out how they first started and the challenges that they had with entering the industry. Sumitha’s Answer

Absolutely, an athlete and dancer can combine their skills and become a model. In fact, both athleticism and dance provide a strong foundation for modeling, as they help develop body awareness, posture, confidence, and the ability to move gracefully—qualities that are highly valued in the modeling industry. Many models have backgrounds in sports or dance, which can make them stand out, especially for brands looking for dynamic, expressive, or fitness-oriented campaigns. Additionally, the discipline, stamina, and performance skills gained from athletics and dance can help with the demands of modeling, such as long photoshoots or runway shows. If you’re interested in modeling, you can start by building a portfolio with photos that showcase your unique strengths, and consider reaching out to local agencies or participating in open casting calls. Combining your athletic and dance experience can definitely be an asset in pursuing a modeling career.
