For an 11th grader in India interested in STEM and defense/military careers, a short-term plan involves focusing on excelling in your Class 11 studies, especially in PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) or PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) if you lean toward medical or biotech fields within STEM. Dedicate time daily to strengthen your basics in these subjects and aim for high scores in school exams to prepare for competitive exams like JEE Main/Advanced for engineering or NDA (National Defence Academy) for a military career. Join extracurriculars like NCC (National Cadet Corps) to build discipline and leadership for defense interests, or participate in science fairs, robotics clubs, or coding competitions to boost STEM skills. Explore summer programs like IIT coaching or defense-oriented workshops to get a head start.
For a long-term plan, decide whether you want to pursue engineering (e.g., computer science, aerospace) through IITs/NITs or a military career via NDA or CDS (Combined Defence Services) exams after Class 12. STEM and defense can overlap in fields like defense technology or DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) roles, so research careers like aeronautical engineering or cybersecurity, which align with both. Balance your interests by creating a study schedule that covers academics, physical fitness for NDA requirements (like running or sports), and extracurriculars. After Class 12, you could aim for a B.Tech while staying involved in NCC or prepare for the NDA exam to join the armed forces. Talk to teachers, career counselors, or defense personnel, and explore online platforms like Unacademy for exam prep to stay on track for both paths!

Look for military programs that involve Department of Defense/Energy grants for training grants for high schoolers or early college students. Now is the perfect time to decide. Meanwhile, there are companies that visit high schools and provide outreach. An example of this is the Hepatitis B foundation in Doylestown. You can visit open houses to decide on eventual programs that partner with the military, or vice versa. The miliary often provides tuition benefits.
