Hi Teodor,

As a relationship coach, you've already established a solid foundation, and a postgraduate program will certainly help you expand your knowledge. There are very few entirely Ivy League programs that are both online and asynchronous, particularly in family therapy or counseling, as the majority of them call for some supervised, practical training. However, there are a few great choices that are worth looking into:

Programs to check out
- Columbia University – Online MSW: A top-tier social work degree with clinical pathways. It’s mostly online, though you’ll need a local field placement.

- NYU Steinhardt – Mental Health Counseling & Wellness (online): Not Ivy but highly respected, with a strong mental health focus and flexible online coursework.

- Capella University – MS in Marriage & Family Therapy: Fully online and directly geared toward family and relationship counseling, though you’ll still arrange supervised practicum hours where you live.

Tips for choosing well
- In the area where you intend to practice, look for recognized programs that satisfy the licensure requirements.
- Explore each program's specializations; your coaching experience may be well-suited to family therapy, couples counseling, or trauma work.
- Make sure you can finish the practicum or clinical hours that are often required for even "online" programs.

You've already taken the initiative to look for a program that aligns with your love of relationships. Admissions teams can provide information about practicum possibilities and international pathways, so keep looking and get in touch. In addition to making your coaching expertise stand out and giving you a powerful voice in any application, this next step may lead to opportunities for an even greater impact on the lives of those you assist.

Best wishes!

Hello, Teodor !

It sounds as though you are thinking that a new specialty will help you like your work more as you want to go into something different at this time as you've stated. You didn't mention if you already have a Bachelors Degree or a Masters Degree and seeking a PhD or what specific post-grad degree. You have referred to your country as the United States according to your profile location of Miami, FL. I will just give you some general information/advice as it's not clear what you are really seeking. Also, what subject is your Bachelors Degree in ?

I am also not sure what your current specialty is because all human behavior/mental health work has "relationship" components in case work. That being said, my first bit of advice is to not do a Masters or PhD program online or Asynchronous without classroom experience, interacting with professors and having access to on campus services and facilities. What you're asking for sounds like you want an extremely impressive degree (ivy league) in a quick and easy manner. The mental health careers should not be done that way and you do not need an Ivy League degree for this career. As a matter of fact, many non-ivy's programs may substantially be better with less rigidity.

For a post graduate study, you need to be willing to dedicate the time to classwork as well as working on a Thesis and dissertation which you would have to do in front of evaluating professors. Some online post-grad programs do not require a thesis and dissertation, but why cut corners for such an important field of work that makes serious impact ? Really consider your goals and end results of how to go about changing specialties. Explore the reality of the careers you're thinking about - Social Work and Family Therapy. Think about a segment of the mental health field that will provide you with the most clients/patients and give you the opportunities to work in various venues. You can work with any population if you get your Masters or PhD in Clinical Psychology. It's up to you, however.

In case you decide to take an active and structured, in person path for your post graduate degree, there are some good psychology departments at your local colleges. There's The University of Miami's School of Education and Human Development, Albizu University - Miami, and Florida International University's College of Arts, Sciences and Education. Although the decision is up to you, it is my view that in the marketplace for your field or work, an online degree will not carry much weight over the other people that have the hands on interaction through an in-person, on site experience. Many opportunities happen on site and you'll have access to information that you wouldn't have doing it online. You will also have quick support as you take the steps towards your advanced degree.

So, really think about it and try to decide upon something that you can stay with and that will benefit you the most when applying for work. It pays to get various viewpoints on this because it is such an important type of work and you should have the optimum opportunities for a satisfying career.
