Hi Eileen,
To become a nurse in New Jersey, you need to earn at least an associates degree (ADN), but better a bachelors (BSN) degree from an accredited nursing program and pass the NCLEX-RN licensing exam. You also need a criminal background check before you can apply for your license.
Rutgers University has some of the best bachelor programs (4 years) in nursing, both in Camden and in New Brunswick:

If you want to start your career with an associates degree (2 years), you can also look at Community Colleges near you:
Jersey College in Teterboro - https://www.jerseycollege.edu/campuses/new-jersey/teterboro-nj
Eastwick College in Ramsey - https://eastwick.edu/program/registered-nursing
Bergen Community College in Paramus - https://bergen.edu/nursing/
I hope this helps! All the best to you!

You're in a great spot with so many options around you. Both New Jersey and New York have tons of schools to choose from. Just pick one that's approved and meets your needs. Honestly, I think the real learning happens after you graduate. Unless you're planning to go straight to grad school or do research, pick a school that fits your budget and is in a good location for you. Once you have your nursing license, most people won't be concerned about which school you attended unless you are interested in research or immediate grad school.

Hi. Rutgers is a great school. I went there. I was in Newark. Now you can go to New Brunswick, and it's much cheaper. I would suggest you get your BSN and not an Associate degree. Hospitals now want the BSN
Older nurses are going back to school for the BSN or they will lose their jobs. A BSN pays more. I hope this helps.
