Hello Riley,
To become an eyelash technician in Iowa, you don't need a special cosmetology license. Instead, you must complete a Board-approved training program with at least 30 hours of instruction. This training will teach you about eye health, allergies, sanitation, and applying eyelash extensions.
Here are the steps to get started:
1. Age and Education: You need to be at least 16 years old and have finished at least two years of high school or an equivalent.
2. Board-Approved Training: Enroll in a training program approved by the Iowa Board of Cosmetology.
3. Training Hours: Make sure the program includes at least 30 hours of instruction.
4. Curriculum: The training should cover:
- Eye diseases and safety
- Allergic reactions
- Sanitation and client preparation
- Lash bonding and isolation
- Eyelash extension application
Once you complete the training, you can start working as a lash technician. Good luck!

Hello, Riley !
In Iowa, the classes for Eyelash Extension are usually two days, but you'll need to check to see if you need your Cosmetology or Esthetician License first.
What's interesting is that in your state of Iowa, there are indeed places that teach lash extensions. One of them is iOWA iBROW iLASH ACADEMY & Spa. Look them up and give them a call. Make sure to ask them if you need to be licensed in cosmetology or anything. because I am pretty sure that in Iowa you need to be licensed first in order to take the training and be certified for lashes. The training is very short in duration.
