Hello, London !

It's great that you are interested in a modeling career and I am happy to shed some light on the career for you.

To begin with, you would not be a photo shoot Model, you would be a Model. Photo shoots are in the category of print and a print gig could be for any number of things. You will have to know every aspect of Modeling so that you can get work in Film, Television, Commercials, Runway, Print and any project that you are sent out for. It's not something that you can depend on doing only one thing, you'll have to know how to do it all. The standard height for female models is generally 5'9" and taller. There may be height lead way for certain types of modeling so being 5'9" or taller is a safe thing. Petite models are considered petite at 5'2" to 5'6". At 5'9" or taller, you would probably get the most work.

You will need to have serious modeling training for this career. Search for Modeling Schools in your area and enroll as soon as you can. I emphasize the importance of training because if you attempt this career cold, you will not have any idea of the business and may not be able to take the direction that is given on a project set or location. There's a lot to learn and many Model Agencies hold training. Do not invest in photos or registering with agencies until you have had full training and know exactly what is expected of you and are familiar with the business end and the fashion and media world. To do it without the training will be confusing, discouraging and will take a very long time to meet the right people through networking and doing it all yourself. Also, applying to a Modeling School doesn't necessarily get you accepted, but keep trying. Take it slow and give it time.

You will learn everything you need to know to start your Modeling career at Modeling School. My advice is not to start registering at Modeling websites for work until you have had training and maybe even some experience. Your modeling school will teach you how to create a portfolio and if the training place is an agency also, they may offer you representation. So take this a step at a time and don't jump in because there can be obstacles if you are unfamiliar with this industry. Your modeling teachers will know what is best for you to avoid the pitfalls. Also, do not put your identity as a model on social media because that can (and does) pose issues that you'd want to avoid. Take this path in person on site as much as possible and avoid online with the exception of when you're ready for work through modeling casting sites.

The best way to establish connections for Modeling, again, is by going to Modeling School. I wouldn't recommend any other way. People have to get to know you - in person - and through modeling school, you'll learn of fashion events and industry activities that will be important to attend. Making connections may be daunting if you're not affiliated already with a professional school or agency. You'll need to make strong contacts and that means staying in touch with everyone that you work with and your teachers at Modeling School.

You can start locally or consider New York City which is a three hour drive from where you live. In your state of Massachusetts, there are Barbizon Modeling Schools in Boston, Springfield and in Worcester, but I don't think there are any others and not in the town in which you live. It is very important to attend modeling school, however.

It's not so much "how" you contact Modeling Agencies, but when. Approaching a modeling agency means that you are 100% ready to work. It means that you are available 24/7 to go on go-sees and to accept all the work that the agency sends you out for. Projects can be demanding and require travel and sometimes uncomfortable requirements like extreme weather or unusual poses or clothing or props. It's good to be open minded for this career that demands a lot of time and energy. Having the training and some experience will also be helpful for you to understand contracts. If you are over 18, you can do this career on your own. If you are not yet 18, your parent will have to be willing and available to oversee your path, accompany you everywhere until you are 18.

There is a lot more information so if you have additional questions, definitely return here to ask ! I wish you all the best in all you do !
