I love writing and am interested in pursuing it, but I'm unsure what my future would look like if I took writing seriously, and I don't want to make the wrong choice.
I love writing personal essays and stories, but what kind of career can I make out of that? I also love to cook / bake, but its always been a hobby. Now I'm not sure if I should think about taking it more seriously. I don't want to waste time by making the wrong decision about what I want to do.

Hello Bella,
Don't be worried about the end goal when it comes to your writing. If you are passionate about doing any career in writing, I would say go for it! There are many different types of jobs that you could get with a writing degree whether it be an editor, author, journalist, creative writer, screen writer and much more. It is a good thing that you are doing writing because it is very versatile in terms of what you can possibly do, it could create a lot of flexibility in your life and a lot of jobs want people who can write well. Writing is a skill at the end of the day and if you are good at it, then there will be many opportunities for you to explore. I would say keep improving your writing skills and I know things will go well for you. Best of luck!

Hi Bella! Writing is an interesting thing: I found that if I wanted to have a writing career, I failed every single time, but if I let writing be who I am, the career followed.
This might sound woo-woo, but it's true. Hitchcock famously said: "To make a great film you need three things – the script, the script and the script." Writing can be the catalyst for almost anything, and can be an asset to almost any profession. But forcing a career onto writing spoils the most important thing: the joy.
So my advice is to learn how to love writing itself. Because if you don't love the writing process, you will not have the solace of it when things are hard. And if you don't have the solace when things are hard, you will not persevere at the beginning while it's hard. And if you don't persevere, you won't get good enough to fuel all the other things writing can become. And thus a career in writing can only be born from the love of writing to persevere through the hard times at the start and become good so that it can become anything.
Nail that part down, and world is your oyster. Writing can take you to surprising places, literally as well as figuratively, and you'll have a career you wouldn't have dreamed of.
