Hey Hazel 👋💗 — love seeing how focused you already are! Most students wait until they’re knee-deep in classes to ask this question—you’re already thinking like a professional. 🙌

At South Texas College, the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is selective, which means you’ll take a set of prerequisite courses before applying for the program itself. Think of these as your “foundation labs” — the classes that shape your understanding before you ever touch the ultrasound machine. 🩺🖥️

You’ll usually start with:
• Anatomy & Physiology I and II 🫀
• Medical Terminology 📘
• Physics or College Algebra for the science of sound waves ⚡
• English Composition ✍️
• And possibly a Speech or Communication course to help you connect with patients clearly and compassionately. 💬

Once those are complete (and your GPA meets the program’s minimum), you can apply for admission into the Sonography program itself—where you’ll dive into diagnostic imaging, vascular and obstetric sonography, and hands-on clinical rotations. That’s where the magic begins. 🌈🩻

My advice? Treat those early classes like your training ground. Ask questions, study anatomy like it’s a living map, and connect with your advisors early—they’ll guide your timing and help you line up your application right on schedule.

You’ve already done the hardest part: you’ve decided to begin. The rest is just commitment, curiosity, and consistency. 🌟

Keep your will conditioned and your purpose aligned. 💫

Hi! Take a look at this website, https://www.southtexascollege.edu/academics/sonography/, and scroll down to where it says "AAS prerequisites" or "ATC prerequisites". When you click on that tab, it'll tell you which classes you need to take.
Thank you comment icon Hi! I apperciate you answering my question, do you know if i would have to take the AAS prereqs or the ATC prereqs? im a bit confused on that but thank you! hazel
Thank you comment icon Hi! So the AAS is an Associates degree of Applied Science. ATC is an Advanced Technical Certificate. Depending on if you want the associate's or the certificate you'd take the prereqs for the respective one. Ayma Malik
