If you want a career in Fashion Marketing, it's a good idea to study at a well-known college or university. You can major in Fashion Marketing at places like Parsons School of Design in New York City or the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Many other schools also offer programs in this field. Look into different options and choose the one that suits your goals best. Good luck!

I also majored in marketing. I started in management at a major retailer, Saks Fifth Avenue in a major market. Before that, I worked in college and a couple years after moving up in smaller retailers. I built relationships with reps who worked for the brands I was responsible for, as well as upper management who had a close tie with management of each brand. A position became open for a rep for one of the brands, and I asked the store manager to recommend me, which she did. I got the job because the brand manager wanted a favorable stand with the store. (Meaning strong front and forward presence on the sales floor, among other things.) From there I got to know the staff, upper management, visual managers, etc that I could leverage to build the brand I represented. I went to New York during market to sit with brand sales managers and buyers (Saks, Neiman Marcus etc) to give them a more clear picture of their market I represented and that customer's buying preference. The buyers made their purchases for the entire country(major markets) so knowing the preference of each was valuable. I also hired many interns from fashion programs who got school credit but no pay. It was invaluable to them as they met upper management, public relation managers etc in each retail store. I hope this helps! Best of luck! You'll get there, keep pushing!!

Hi Madeline. If you want to major in marketing but work in the fashion industry, there are some steps you can take to prepare for your career. The most important thing to know is that fashion marketing combines business skills with creativity. You'll need to understand customers, trends, and how to make a brand stand out so people want to buy their clothing.
First, you should focus on your education. Most people start with a degree in marketing, business, or communications. While in college, try to take classes that relate to fashion if your school offers them. Courses in branding, advertising, social media, and consumer behavior are very useful because they teach skills directly used in fashion marketing.
Next, getting hands-on experience is very important. Internships or part-time jobs with fashion brands, boutiques, or online stores will help you understand how fashion marketing works in real life. Even working in retail can teach you about trends, what customers want, and what makes a brand successful.
You can also try your own projects, like managing social media for a small designer or starting a fashion blog. These experiences look great on a resume and give you practice for future jobs.
Networking is another key step. You can attend fashion shows, industry events, and marketing workshops to meet people who work in fashion. Building connections can help you find opportunities and learn tips you won't get in school.
