Hello, Sophia !

Getting a scholarship for Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College and Southeastern Conference Colleges will be great, but there's just a matter of applying, they tell you what the amount will be and there's only completing the application, sending it in and waiting. Being more informed about how scholarships work can make it more understandable for you.

You indicate that you are in Honduras and your plan to move to the U.S. should be what you are planning. Are you already in the U.S. ? Are you officially an International Student ? It's not clear from what you've posted. In case you are already in the United States, and have a place to live and will be able to relocate to LSU or another/different Southeastern Conference College, you first have to ascertain which college you will attend. The answer to your question cannot be generalized. LSU is a member of the Southeastern Conference, but you're going to have to contact LSU about the scholarships.

You can get scholarships from colleges but not Federal Student Financial Aid. That comes from the government and the state. You will have to complete a Federal Student Financial Aid application and if you live with parents, their income and assets will be counted in the formula to see how much you will receive in Federal Student Financial Aid. Louisiana State University does not provide a fixed timeline for scholarship responses, but the process is tied to key dates in the admissions and scholarship calendar. You really need to contact the college to ask specific questions with details. Financial assistance for anything is not general, it's according to specific guidelines of the institution you are applying for the scholarship from. If you want the exact information, call LSU at (225) 578-1175 and ask to speak with the Financial Aid office. Financial Aid is not good or bad, rather it's based on a formula considering household income, assets and other factors.

Also, a 3.6 GPA is not a low GPA. Please visit your high school guidance counselor to be informed.

You can look for Major based scholarships and others online, but try to interact with the college you'll attend rather than asking general questions online. For this, you're going to need information that pertains specifically to your circumstances and that is done in person through a discussion with college staff.

Best wishes in all you do !

It is so impressive to see the wide range of activities you have balanced alongside your studies, and I want to reassure you that a 3.6 GPA is actually a very solid foundation for many SEC schools, especially when paired with such a rich resume in leadership and athletics. While many top-tier merit scholarships at large public universities like LSU are highly competitive, your involvement in STUCO, NHS, and Model UN makes you an excellent candidate for holistic review scholarships and leadership-based awards that look beyond just a test score or grade point average. For international students, LSU and other SEC institutions often offer non-resident fee waivers or international student scholarships that can significantly reduce the cost of tuition, and some even provide specific awards for social science majors who demonstrate a commitment to community service. I highly recommend reaching out directly to the international admissions office at your target schools to ask about department-specific scholarships for political science and to see if they have any private donor awards that match your specific profile in track or volleyball. Your diverse experiences show that you are a well-rounded and dedicated individual, and those qualities are exactly what admissions officers look for when deciding where to invest their scholarship funds. You have worked incredibly hard to build such a fantastic record, and I wish you the best of luck.
