That’s a great question! When I was in college, I was working full-time while also prioritizing my social life because I’m a very social person. I believe it’s so important to truly enjoy this time in your life. While classes and studying can definitely be stressful, I encourage you to also make space for the fun and exciting moments—there really is nothing like this unique period in your life.

To manage your time effectively between college studies and a social life, here are a few suggestions:

- Create a schedule: Use a planner or digital calendar to block out time for classes, study sessions, work, and social activities. Seeing everything laid out helps prevent overbooking and keeps you organized.
Prioritize tasks: Break down assignments and studying into manageable chunks, and focus on what’s most urgent or important first.
- Set boundaries: When it’s study time, try to limit distractions and stay focused, so you can be fully present during your social time without worrying about unfinished work.
- Use breaks wisely: Take advantage of short breaks between classes or work to review notes or do light studying.
- Be intentional with social plans: Choose social activities that energize you and fit your schedule, rather than overcommitting.
Practice self-care: Make sure to get enough rest, exercise, and downtime to keep your mind and body balanced.

Balancing work, school, and social life isn’t always easy, but with intentional planning and by remembering to enjoy the moment, you can make the most of this incredible time.

It was all about balance for me. College is generally the first time you’re away from home with all that freedom so finding a balance on your own for social time vs. school time is key. And both are important parts of the college experience. I sat down each week & looked at school schedules & blocked out dedicated study time - the amount dependent on how busy the week was (e.g., was there a test, a paper due, etc.). But I also made sure there was time blocked out for social activities. For me, that was one of the most important parts of college - balancing being a student but still enjoying those social freedoms.

Hi Victoria!
This is a great question! I think a great way to manage your time in college is to sit down and look at your schedule. Make sure to look closely at each syllabus you will get for each of your classes so you know when things are due. I would recommend you doing this each week to make sure you are keeping track of everything. As you meet people and make friends, you can try to make studying part of your social life. What I mean is find people to study with so you can still get that social interaction while getting your school work done. Also look into clubs and school wide activities and schedule around those. If you are able to schedule both school and socialization you can find a balance. Be patient with yourself though. It will take time to figure out that balance, especially your first few semesters as you adjust to the college workload.
