Business Major in College, looking to decide between creating my own brand or working for a company to help them build their product branding.

I'm a business major who loves gaming culture and pop-culture collectibles, and I’m debating two paths: launching my own niche brand around a passion community (think gaming + fandom merch) or joining a company to grow their lifestyle/collectibles marketing. What early marketing tactics or branding moves helped creators turn a personal hobby (like gaming or collecting) into a profitable, recognizable brand Did community-building on TikTok/YouTube, limited-edition drops, or fan collabs drive the biggest growth? Any low-cost, college-friendly experiments (like a mini merch test or social campaign) I could run to validate demand before committing? #Fall25 ?
