For people who major in civil engineering, how do you all feel about it? Could you give me an example? What do your classes look like, and what college do you attend or plan to attend?

I want to major in that, but I want to get a feel for what it is. The interest gives me a textbook answer. I want someone who knows it or is going through it.

Hi Jaylee,

While I'm not a Civil Engineer, I did some research that might answer some of your questions. You've asked similar questions to those asked by other learners on CareerVillage, and perhaps the responses they received can guide you!

From what I've seen, it sounds like the college coursework will be grueling and often leads to burnout (here is a great thread about that and how to retain motivation: https://www.careervillage.org/questions/1173135/what-motivates-people-to-continue-pursuing-engineering-despite-the-difficult-coursework-and-career-ahead-in-the-future#answers), but overall, people find their careers to be rewarding.

To learn more about college classes that you would need to take, I recommend looking at specific colleges and the programs they offer. For example, Ohio State is known for its Civil Engineering program, and you can find requirements, tracks, and course offerings listed on its website (https://www.ohio.edu/engineering/civil/academics/undergraduate/bs-civil-engineering). I'd recommend looking at multiple schools you're interested in and comparing the programs and course requirements to see which ones interest you the most!
