Start by building a strong base in courses like math, physics, thermodynamics, and programming. Get practical experience with tools like MATLAB, Simulink, CAD, and PVsyst. Work on personal projects such as small solar setups, wind turbines, or energy-monitoring devices. Join campus clubs, participate in energy-related competitions, or get involved in research and lab work to gain hands-on experience and show initiative.

Networking is very important. Attend career fairs, webinars, and conferences, whether online or in person. Keep your LinkedIn profile up to date, and reach out to professional engineers, alumni, or professors for guidance and mentorship. Make sure your resume and portfolio highlight your skills, projects, and interests in areas like solar, wind, energy storage, or smart grids. Apply early and widely to startups, government labs, and research institutions. If you can't find a full internship, look for micro-internships, part-time research, or volunteer opportunities. Platforms like VirtualInternships.com, The Intern Group, Sustainable Energy for All, and InternHQ can help you find virtual or remote renewable energy experiences.

Before applying for internships, practice mock interviews, both technical and behavioral. Stay curious and keep up with new developments in your field.
