Construction Management is a field that may require travel or a willingness to relocate at times so you can be on the project site. That is why most workers are called journeymen. Construction Management is also a field where your knowledge level and experience dictates your path. You cannot be a superintendent or project manager without having basic engineering knowledge with civil engineering forming much of the basis of site, foundation and structural work as well as construction experience. This is a career path where exceptional effort can get you noticed but the hours may be long. Since the specifications and drawings are not perfect communication with design architects and engineers is essential. Working with the designers to maintain project quality is essential and much of that effort falls to younger Construction Management Project Engineers. This is somewhat ironic because those younger staff members may have the least experience on a building site but act as the hub of all communication between the design team and subcontractor team with support from their own staff members, including Project Managers and Superintendents. This is a challenging career path requiring investment in potentially long hours but there is nothing more satisfying than seeing an empty site transform into a new building. Renovations can also be satisfying.

Managing any tight deadlines, budget constraints, and coordinating with other contractors or subcontractors to make sure everyone is on the same page, this can tie into communication. Being able to communicate effectively in a way that everyone understands what needs to happen or what is left to be done. We use an app called company cam for all of our crews and divisions. The salesperson is able to upload the sales document with what needs to be done, how much of any material, hours, and any concerns from the customer. Then they can add photos or videos of the project with notes added to it. Keeps everyone held accountable and very easy to use and how we try to minimize any communication challenges.
