Hi Emily, I did an internship with my local county, and it turned out to be a great experience. Even though it wasn't related to my political science degree and did not pay anthing (just credit hours). I got to create a health survey for restaurants and visit different food services to gather data. It was an exciting way to spend the summer and gave me a taste of working in an office environment. Before this, I only had experience in retail and lawn care. Although it didn't lead to a county job, it added valuable skills to my resume. Meeting people that you can use as a reference can also be a big help for future job opportunities. Remember, we all need a bit of confidence, and an internship can be that important boost or first step to get us moving forward and up. Good luck.

Hi Emily. You need to create a clear, focused resume. Even if you haven't worked in operations before, you can include skills you learned from school projects, part-time jobs, volunteering, or group assignments. Skills like problem-solving, teamwork, communication, time management, and staying organized are very important. If you've worked in retail, hospitality, or any job that deals with customers, you can include it as these jobs teach you how to manage busy situations and keep things running smoothly.

Networking can help you find great internship opportunities. You can check with your university career center, they often work directly with companies looking for interns. LinkedIn is also useful because it allows you to connect with Operations Management professionals and politely ask for advice.

When you apply, you can apply to many different places. Operations exists in all kinds of companies, like logistics, manufacturing, tech start-ups, retail, hospitals, and even local government. You should also change your cover letter a little for each company and mention something specific about them. This shows you care and helps you stand out.

Wishing you all the best.
