Hi Rylann - this is a great question. I agree with Briggette that nurses are integral to healthcare in the US. They typically spend more time with patients, do more of the educating, and often have a more practical perspective than doctors do. I have put a link below to 50 specific ways nurses contribute to society.
What does this mean for society? It means more effective prevention strategies (e.g., not as much diabetes and heart disease) and better outcomes when people do become sick or injured. A generally more healthy society means a happier and more productive one.
Despite recent reclassification, nursing is an important and fulfilling profession. Wishing you good luck!

Nurses are marvelous, we cannot do without them. The majority of care of which a patient receives are met via the register nurse, LPN, nurses assistant, or even the scrub nurse. After the doctor performs his care upon a patient, the nurse has the esteem respect to ensure comfort, promote healing, supply understanding and empathy and put forth the walk of support. Nurses are vital to the healing process by generating the knowledge of ackquired healing, and has the role of ensuring that the patient is fully informed and can understanding his or her care.
Next step is for you to do research on the qualification of becoming a nurse.
The next step would be to research various diseases and illnesses and inquire what part each nurse role would play.
