As a high school senior, how do I double major in college?
I want to double major in English and business, but for all of my college applications it only allows me to pick one. I am not sure how to indicate that I would like to double major.

Hi Eva,
It's fantastic that you're thinking about a double major in college! I did a double major too, though both were in the same business school, which made things a bit easier to handle. When you're applying, it might be best to start with one major. Once you're at school, set up a meeting with an advisor to discuss your plan for two majors. They can help you figure out if it's doable and what the requirements are. If the majors are quite different, you might need an extra semester. Good luck with everything!

Hi Eva - this is a great question! The approach to a double major can vary by each school, so I would encourage you to do a little research on their Admissions and/or relevant Academic Department webpages. I also want to echo what Jerome said - it is very helpful to form a relationship early with your counselor/mentor (usually a professor in your area of study). Regular check-ins with them as they review your transcript and completed courses is also important. They can help make sure you are on track to graduate by your desired term/semester and that you complete all requirements for both majors.
This again depends on the individual school, but there are some double major programs. For example, I studied both Art History and Library Science in graduate school. There was a special dual-degree program that allowed me to complete less credits for each degree overall. I applied to this program after I was already attending the school and it had a separate application process from general school admissions.
Best of luck with your studies and college applications!

I was able to adjust my academic goals with a counselor once I started. I began aiming to get a psychology degree and they were able to change it to a dual major pretty easily. Schedule an appointment early so they can help amp out what that journey will look like.
