Should I get a laptop for Engineering-Related programs? If so, which one should I aim for?
I am planning on going to Oakland University for Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering. What kind of laptop should I purchase for CAD/Automation related programs? I’m on the fence between a MacBook (I don’t think it’s a great idea, since SolidWorks is Windows oriented) and a Lenovo ThinkPad (they’re really expensive) I have a very strong PC at home, but I am wondering if I should get a laptop I can use in class. If there are other suggestions around $2k, it would be much appreciated!

My recommendation is to invest in a laptop that allows for upgrades when needed. Avoid going cheap—skip Chromebooks and tablets, as they won’t meet long-term needs. A great option to consider is HP’s new AI-powered ProBook PCs, which offer strong performance and future-ready features that can really benefit you.
Ultimately, it’s all about you! Take the time to do your research and stay informed about the latest advancements in technology. Keeping up to date ensures you make smart decisions and stay ahead in a rapidly changing world.
