So I dont know a ton about schools in California, the only one I know of is cal trade. Now that I've said that, have you thought about out of state schooling? I know that could be out of the question but it could be way cheaper and get you where you want to be quicker. There's hundreds, possibly thousands around the country that have direct ties to unions.
I wish I had better advice but im just not an expert on the west coast. One thing I will say is that you are making a great choice going into welding. There will be between 100k and 200k welding positions open in the next 10 years. So a shortage means money, but also quick promotions. Just keep yourself in the booth and under the hood. Practice as much as you can, challenge yourself. Have your instructor push you. If you do need help please reach out and I'll do whatever I can to help out.
