Like any other language, the jargon and medical terminology used by doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers is best learned through direct practice in a "real" environment. You will pick up a lot by reading medical literature, so find out where a local library may subscribe to nursing journals or surgical journals (they tend to be expensive to buy on your own). Find out if any local hospitals are willing to allow you to shadow during your studies.
By the way, it is hard for most of us in Medicine to remember NOT to use medical words when speaking with patients and families. It is a gift to be able to communicate with your patients while avoiding the challenging words and abbreviations and acronyms we tend to use.
