What career paths are most common for students who major in law and minor in political science How well would my political science minor compliment my law major? ?
My name is Kalli and I’m in 12th grade. I plan on going to Lamar for pre-law and minoring in political science. After my 4 year program I will hopefully get accepted into to UT to finish my law degree.

Hi Kalli: KP's answer is right on the spot. Law is a doctorate degree. Undergrad is anything you want! Hopefully something you want. At this point finish high school and get into the college you want. Go in with an open mind. You may take a biology class and fall in love with biology and want to do that instead of law.
Lawyers come in all shapes and sizes! A degree in english or biology does not mean you can not go to law school. I know a ton of lawyers with all sorts of undergrad degrees. Makes them all better lawyers. Be true to yourself. Keep an open mind and follow where the road leads you. Law is a great profession - I love it - but it is not for everyone. That's why I suggest you be true to yourself first and forwemost and the path will become clear with each passing year.

Hi Kalli,
Law is a graduate degree that you study for in law school. In the US, you can not major in law in undergraduate.
Pre-law is an undergrad program that leads to law school, not a stand-alone degree. For this reason, I would recommend to major in political science or another major that is reading and writing intensive and trains your logical thinking. You'll gain a full degree that you can use for other career paths outside of law school.
Remember: there is no guarantee that you'll end up with a law degree. Plans change, life happens. You want to earn a degree you can fall back on.
