How to give an impressive answer to 'tell me about yourself' and 'why should we select you' ?

I really don't know how to express myself and talk about how i feel about a certain thing. I want to be self aware and know to talk about where I'm going and why i chose something.

Hello! When answering "Tell me about yourself", try to give a brief, relevant story connecting your background, interests, and skills to the specific opportunity. Start with a quick snapshot about yourself, share experiences tied to the opportunity and relevant skills, and connect your background to their role or program. When answering "Why should we select you?", they’re looking for your confidence, motivation, and what makes you a strong fit. Try to focus on enthusiasm and commitment to show them that you want to learn and grow, and what makes you different and unique. Overall, keep your answer short and sweet, typically, under 1–2 minutes, practice out loud so it sounds natural, focus on what’s relevant to the opportunity, and end with your excitement for the role or program.

Hi Aeman. For "Tell me about yourself," you need to think of your answer as a short story about your journey and goals. You can structure it in three parts: past, present, and future. Start with a little about your background, like your education, interests, or experiences. Then, you can talk about what you are doing now, such as your skills, achievements, or projects. Finally, you can explain your future goals and how this opportunity fits in.

When answering "Why should we select you?", you can show your strengths and how they match the role. First, you need to think about what the organization is looking for. Then, explain your skills or experiences that match, with examples if possible. For example, if the job needs teamwork and problem-solving, you could say, "I work well in teams. In my group projects, I helped organize tasks and meet deadlines. I also learn quickly and stay motivated, which makes me a good fit for this role." This shows that you understand the job and can contribute.

To get better at talking about yourself, practice thinking about your experiences and goals. You may spend a few minutes each day reflecting on what motivates you, what you've learned, and what you want to achieve. You can also write down your main points and practice saying them out loud. Over time, this makes it easier to speak clearly and naturally in interviews. Good luck.

Patricia’s Answer

When answering this question, be direct, confident, and maintain a positive presence, smile and keep good eye contact. This helps you set the right environment and connect naturally with your interviewer. Remember that interviewers are human beings with emotions too, so there is no need to feel nervous or intimidated.

From there, provide a brief introduction about yourself, your professional background, and the key skills you have developed over the years. This gives your interviewer a clear picture of who you are.

Provide explaination on how your experience, training, and abilities will add value to the organization. Strengthen your points by providing specific examples or evidence of your past achievements, including dates where necessary.

Clearly explain how you plan to contribute even more if given the opportunity to handle the role. Keep your response concise, clear, and focused on the unique value you can offer.

Cheers.

Holly’s Answer

The key is to be straightforward and avoid using extra words. Starting with "well" or "uh" can make you seem unsure. Practice a 30-second pitch that is clear and confident, but not arrogant. Focus on what they need and adjust your answer to show how you can meet their team's specific needs.
