If you were/are a lawyer who went to law school directly after completing your undergraduate studies, when did you start studying for the LSATs Also, what did you do to study?

I am a freshman at Dartmouth College and I have been thinking about going to law school after I finish my undergraduate degree. I would like to focus on environmental/land use law.

DENNIS’s Answer

Hi Briana: I did not go directly to law school. After undergrad I worked for 2 years to save money then went to grad school and got a master's degree. Then I worked for another 2 years to save money then applied to law school.
I am a terrible test taker. Best thing to do is get an LSAT book and an egg timer and start doing the practice tests and time them. There are several different books so there are a lot of options. If you plan to go to law school directly from college i'd wait to sophmore year to start. Take the LSAT late in your junior year to see how it goes. Then again in your senior years to hopefully get a better number.
Keep your grades up. That counts as much as the LSAT.
Good luck.

Jaime’s Answer

Hi Brianna,

I wish I could remember when I started, but I think it wasn’t until junior or early senior year. But I know I took a course that was helpful - I want to say it was Kaplan but it might have been Princeton - but it was in-person and weekly, and it helped boost my score by several points. I would look into those and other course options. They’ll probably tell you when it’s recommended to start.
