What are some tips for balancing the workload of a freshman year in college while also playing woman's ice hockey?
I am currently in my senior year of highschool, and I play 19u girls travel hockey. I currently have games on the weekend and practice two nights a week, but I know college hockey will be a lot more strenuous. What advice can you give me to aid in my studies for Occupational Therapy, while also showing my commitment to playing college hockey?

As someone who's balanced work, family, and going back to school for my Master's in Occupational Therapy, I can tell you that time management and consistency are going to be your biggest strengths. Playing college hockey will require a lot of dedication, but the discipline, teamwork, and perseverance you develop as a student-athlete are qualities that will serve you well in OT school and your future career. Stay organized with a planner or calendar, don't wait until the last minute to study, and use travel time or breaks between classes and practices to review material. Also, don't be afraid to communicate with your professors early if conflicts arise—they appreciate students who are proactive. Most importantly, take care of yourself by prioritizing sleep, nutrition, and recovery, because you can't perform your best academically or athletically if you're running on empty.

Back in college, I was on the crew team and studied psychology. As a psych major, I had to do internships off campus. I understand how you feel about balancing college hockey with your studies. To manage both, having a well-organized routine is key. Focus on your classes and hockey practices. I dedicated a few hours every afternoon to studying and set regular times for meals and sleep to stay on track. I always studied in the same spot to keep my routine steady, and it really helped. By the weekend, I was usually tired, but it worked out because regattas were on weekends. This might sound like your life already. Remember to enjoy playing hockey and cherish every moment. College is a unique time where you'll make lifelong friends.
