How do I network with professionals for a government job in a country I don't live in yet?

I'm an American student and engaged to a Canadian and want to move there-- where do I find people there who work government accounting jobs?

I agree with the advice above. On LinkedIn focus your search on this industry. Talk to a lot of people before you make any decision.

Hi Rowan! I always recommend to start with LinkedIn - this is a create networking tool and a great way to get connected with professionals all over the world. Create a linkedin profile and highlight your school and some of the things you have been involved in on campus or any relevant job experience you may have. Within linkedin you can grow your network and search for folks in different locations or with different careers. You can also join groups and follow different companies that may be of interest for you.

I recommend by starting your networking journey by filtering by your school. Once you are your school's page you can look at the "alumni" section and find individuals that graduated from your school and see where they work, where they live, what they do, etc. This is a good way to narrow the search of who to connect with since you already have something mutually in common - where you went to school! From there, you can find individuals that have pursued similar careers that you are looking to pursue . You can send them a message and connect with them. In my experience - school alumni are always willing to help other individuals that went to the same school!

Hope this helps!

LinkedIn is a fantastic place to start. The world is becoming more virtual, so why not use virtual networking to build your network. When you do go to that new country, you can reach out to some of the people you've met virtually to try to have the opportunity to meet in person and really build those relationships.
