what are the benefits of becoming a dentist rather than a dental assistant?

I want to be a dentist but I know it will be challenging to reach that goal so I was wondering if the extra school was worth it. #dentist #dental-hygienist #dental

Absolutely! While a dental assistant is a VERY vital team member to a dental practice, as a dentist you get to do the actual work! That's the fun part for me. I love working with my hands, having some autonomy with my work schedule so that I can have time for my family, and the pay isn't too shabby ;) I love working with my patients and even had the wonderful opportunity to go on medical missions where I provided free dental treatment to communities in developing countries, where they have lack of access to dental care. It's an amazing field.

The ADA provides a list of great reasons to be a dentist at https://www.ada.org/en/education-careers/careers-in-dentistry/be-a-dentist

Hi Carissa! Don’t give up so soon, because you won’t regret it I promise. Dental assistants roll are so important as the dentist since they will help you in the entire process. But, is very different to help than actually do the job by yourself and take decision. If you have a dentist already, I’ll suggest you in your next appointment to talk to him, to talk also with his/her dental assistant and the rest of the staff, so you can have a better idea of what you want to do in your future.
