How do I get into music production?
Making music is something I'm interested in doing, but I'm not sure where to start with it. Any advice would be appreciated, like maybe classes to take, free/cheap music software to mess around with, or anything else music related. Thanks in advance!

I've been there! There's a lot of information out there so it can be overwhelming. You only need a couple of things to get started though.
1. A computer
2. A DAW (music production software)
3. An audio interface and microphone (You need this to record vocals and instruments)
When choosing a DAW, there are many options. If you have a mac, I would suggest starting out with garageband. It's free and you can later move on to Logic Pro.
There are free online DAW's you can mess around with such as Bandlab and Soundtrap. They are easy and fun to use but somewhat limited. If you are curious and want to get started right now this is your best option.
Reaper is a great choice. It has a free trial that never ends or purchase it for $60. The downside is that it comes with almost no plugins or virtual instruments so you have to purchase those separately.
Be on the lookout for deals on audio interface bundles. They usually include a microphone and headphones and tend to be pretty cheap.
There is a lot of info on youtube on whatever music production topic you might have questions about so be sure to check out some if you need help. Reddit forums are a pretty good resource too. I guarantee that most questions you may have will already have an answer on the reddit forums.

There are many ways to get into production. If you don't already have a mentor or community support the best way is to check out the educate yourself DIY options. The problem in music is that too many people don't want to put in the TIME it takes to be a professional. There are far too many amateurs already out there. Training is the best route . I suggest. https://online.berklee.edu/ . You can choose what level you want. Start with Certificate if you're not sure. Jump in to Bachelors or Masters if you know that's your fit.
