Felis’s Answer

Colleges love to see students who volunteer, play sports, or play instruments. Having a part-time job while studying is also a big plus. The more you do these activities, the more you show you can handle challenges well.

Kathy’s Answer

Volunteering or joining an extra curricula activity in the field you will be studying is always a bonus for college resumes. Some colleges may even require a certain amount of hours or internship. Doing what you're interested in, is always a win-win. So, even if an avtivity doesn't correlate to your major, you can still put it down, on the resume because it shows your interest and involvement.

Vianne’s Answer

Colleges prefer to see genuine involvement in a few activities rather than a long list of clubs with little participation. It's more impressive to be dedicated to a couple of activities that matter to you than to join many clubs you rarely attend. Leadership, commitment, and helping others are qualities that stand out.

Volunteering is a great option, especially if it's consistent, like assisting at a hospital, tutoring, or working with community groups. Participating in sports, clubs, student government, debate, or cultural clubs also shows teamwork and involvement in your school community. If you're interested in healthcare or science, joining health clubs, science competitions, research programs, or shadowing medical professionals can be beneficial.

Don't forget that jobs and internships are important too. Working part-time demonstrates responsibility and good time management. Ultimately, colleges want to see that you challenged yourself, stayed committed, and got involved in your community, rather than trying to do everything at once.
